The Ultimate NY Playlist

Lou was featured in New York Magazine this week in their article, “The Ultimate New York Playlist”. Lou holds not one, but three of the 40 spots on the magazine’s list of “the most New York songs written since 1965”.

“Walk on the Wild Side” topped the list as the #2 most NY song, right after Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York”. “I’m Waiting For the Man” came in at #16, and “Coney Island Baby” came in at #34.

Fireworks Ensemble plays Metal Machine Music

On Friday February 5th, 2010, the Fireworks Ensemble performed Ulrich Krieger’s transcription of Metal Machine Music at the Miller Theatre at Columbia University.

The New York Times gave the show an incredible review, saying, “The transcribed ‘Metal Machine Music’ no longer reflects its title. Now it’s more string than metal, and it’s flesh rather than machine. It’s a world away from the original in both execution and intent; it’s social rather than solitary, respectful rather than irritating. But in its own much more formal way, it’s just as maniacal.”

NY Shuffle returns

Lou and Hal Willner have been gearing up to relaunch their weekly Sirius XM radio show, New York Shuffle. The show will air Saturdays at midnight ET on Sirius XM channel 29, The Loft.

If you want to request songs to be played on the show, please email LouandHal@gmail.com

The program features music that runs the gamut from jazz to vintage rock, and everything in between. As Lou says, “For years, I’ve always been a fan of eclectic radio, such as FM radio in the past when you could hear stations play widely divergent music, ranging from Rock to Country to Jazz to Opera. I loved the days when DJs who did their own programming set the bar high.“
