This past Saturday, August 6th, Lou took part in “Shelebration!” – a concert tribute to Shel Silverstein at Central Park Summerstage in NYC, produced by Lou pal, Hal Willner. Lou read the Silverstein poem, “25 Minutes to Go”, accompanied by singer, Emily Haines. Other performers included Laurie Anderson, Martha Wainwright, and Dan Zanes. Silverstein (1932-1999) was a prolific songwriter, children’s-book author (including “The Giving Tree”), cartoonist, essayist, poet, novelist and playwright. He wrote hits including “A Boy Named Sue” for Johnny Cash, “One’s on the Way” for Loretta Lynn and “The Cover of the Rolling Stone” for Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show.
